The Origin Story: How ColonThreeMC Came to Be
v1.0 — Dawn of the Network
ColonThreeMC didn't start from nothing. It started from something much harder to work with: the dying remnants of two existing Minecraft servers — a Creative world and a Vanilla survival world — that were on their last legs.
The servers were handed over to our operator, Slate, who took the reins and immediately got to work. Rather than let them fade out quietly, she migrated everything off the old infrastructure and onto high-capacity on-premise hardware that she personally operates. That move laid the foundation for everything that came after.
v1.1 — Birth of the Network
Running two isolated servers side by side wasn't going to cut it. In v1.1, the standalone servers were merged into a proper Velocity network — a single connected platform that players could move between seamlessly.
With that came a set of features that still define the experience today:
- Cross-server chat — talk to players on any server from wherever you are
- ViaVersion — join from virtually any Minecraft version, Java or not
- Geyser — full Bedrock Edition support, letting mobile and console players join without needing Java
These weren't minor additions. They meant that from very early on, ColonThreeMC was built to be accessible — no matter what version you're on, you can connect.
